Volvo Extended Warranty: Coverage, Cost & Plans
A Volvo extended warranty can help pay for covered vehicle repairs after the original factory warranty ends. Volvo offers its own protection options through Volvo Increased Protection (VIP), while separately purchased vehicle service contracts are also available from other providers. The right choice depends on your Volvo age, mileage, coverage needs, expected ownership period, and the terms of the contract.
Volvo Extended Warranty and VIP Plans
Volvo’s extended protection products are commonly offered under the Volvo Increased Protection (VIP) program. Volvo currently lists extended vehicle service contracts that can provide protection for mechanical components, in-vehicle technology, and certain hybrid or electric vehicle components. Depending on the plan and vehicle, coverage can extend up to 11 years or 150,000 miles.
Volvo’s vehicle service contract program has included different coverage levels, such as Powertrain, Gold, and Platinum. Coverage availability depends on factors such as vehicle age, mileage, model, and the selected contract.
Volvo Powertrain Coverage
A powertrain plan generally focuses on major components responsible for moving the vehicle, such as the engine, transmission, and drive axle. The exact components covered are determined by the service contract.
Volvo Gold Coverage
Gold coverage provides broader protection than a basic powertrain plan. Depending on the contract, it can include additional vehicle systems beyond the primary powertrain components.
Volvo Platinum Coverage
Platinum is designed as broader, exclusionary coverage. Instead of listing every covered component, an exclusionary contract generally covers eligible components unless they are specifically excluded by the agreement. Volvo’s published service-contract materials identify exclusions such as certain wear items, tires, wheels, body panels, glass, upholstery, and other components.
Always review the actual contract rather than relying only on the plan name.
