Buick is one of the many brands that make up General Motors (GM), which is one of the big three American automobile manufacturers, along with Ford and Chrysler. Buick sells entry-level luxury vehicles and has long been positioned as a premium automobile brand, in between the GM’s mainstream brand, Chevrolet, and GM’s luxury brand, Cadillac. According to a GM spokesman, Buick is intended to compete with Acura, Volvo, and entry-level Lexus models. If you own a new or late model Buick or have checked one out recently, you know that they really can compete with those other brands. Buick is making some very nice vehicles these days!

After reducing the number of models in its lineup down to only three in 2005, Buick has rebuilt its lineup and now has a successful model lineup that includes something for just about everyone – the Encore mini crossover, the Verano entry-level compact sedan, the Regal mid-size sports sedan, the LaCrosse mid-size sedan, and the Enclave full-size luxury crossover. Buick will even introduce a convertible for 2016, the Cascada. Buick’s recent strategy is working well, too, as they sold the most vehicles ever in 2014. In addition to finding the right model lineup, Buick has been doing something else very right lately –reliability. Buick earned the number two spot in the 2015 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (which examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year-old vehicles), being beat out only by Lexus! Buick owners only experienced 110 problems per 100 vehicles, which is far below the industry average of 147 and even one problem less than the famously reliable Toyota. Consumer Reports October 2014 report on vehicle reliability agrees with J.D. Power, placing Buick at number six on its list and rating every vehicle Buick sells above average.
